Two months of pro-active reflection and re-posturing:

Is the Holy Spirit calling you to join the new coalition of the willing who are:

  • rejecting silence and appeasement;

  • actively critiquing systems that perpetuate climate change and oppression; and

  • publicly declaring solidarity with those voices driving

    • the just transition away from fossil fuels,

    • the struggle against colonial supremacists,

    • the protection of environmental defenders?

The courageous leadership of Colombia and the Netherlands gives us our occasion: The First Conference on Transitioning Away from Fossil Fuels, scheduled for April 24-29 in Santa Marta, Colombia. Some of us will travel there as Civil Society climate observers, akin to the work we do at COP30. Most of us however can engage “The Santa Marta Campaign of 2026” through “distributed mobilization initiatives” (marches, etc.) and on-line working groups that collaborate in the seven weeks before the conference.

Join the Coalition of the Willing

from the creation care movement who will be issuing public interaction and support for these three statements:

Reflection Questions: Does God have an invitation here for you:

  • to begin to engage in critiques of systems— e.g., capitalism, religious traditions, and other systemic forces acting as sacred cows—as compared to just blaming individual polluters?

  • to fight for the protection of environmental and indigenous defenders? (cf. Global Witness: Roots of Resistance)

  • to recognize the role that white supremacy and colonialism play in climate change, and join the struggle to resist it wherever it is found? (cf. Lowell Bliss, “Greta, Please Forgive this Gaza Late Adopter

A Call to Christians —in a Crisis of Faith and Democracy

Reflection Questions: Does God have an invitation here for you:

  • to resist anti-democratic authoritarianism, fascism, and state-sponsored violence in your country and globally?

  • to publicly resist Christian Nationalism as unChristian and contrary to the gospel?

  • to oppose the MAGA-idolatries that have co-opted many of our brothers and sisters in Christ?

  • to explore how climate change is not compartmentalized out from other atrocities, such as ICE killings in Minneapolis, etc.?
